Intact glassware is a very rare archaeological finding in the territory of the Palace of the Grand Dukes of Lithuania. When a glass item shattered, the pieces were thrown away, therefore spreading in a wide territory, which made it rarely possible to piece the whole item back together. Sometimes trash from the chambers would be thrown straight into the toilet shaft. Because of that the broken pieces did not scatter so widely, so it is easier to more or less piece the whole item back. In one such shaft by the west part of the Palace, many archaeological findings were discovered, amongst them – a lot of glassware pieces as well.
This around half-liter bottle was pieced back from those toilet shaft findings. It has a lead cap that can be screwed on and off when needed. It was probably used for infusion or fragrant oil storage and is considered to be a pharmacist‘s vessel.
