While working for the Wiener Werkstätte, Kolo Moser was interested in every area of design and was understandably dubbed a ‘Jack of all trades’ by Hermann Bahr. As a teacher at the College of Arts and Crafts he influenced a whole generation of young artists. Striking both in form and its deep midnight blue colour, the glass vase fits into the elegantly curved brass mount. In 1903 a similar mount was presented by Kolo Moser at an exhibition in Turin, which dates this piece as being from the early phase of the Wiener Werkstätte.
