This work was the preparatory sketch for the fresco in
the centre of the Gallery of the Ancestors in the castle of Ludwigsburg,
residence of the Dukes of Württemberg. A team of artists
from Scaria d’Intelvi (Como), specialists in architecture and plastering, was
involved in carrying out the complex project. The theme of the prince’s Good
Government is celebrated here in the Glorification
through Magnificence, symbolised by the pyramid and flanked by the figures of
Glory and of Fame, who conquer Time. The
highly controlled composition is accompanied by a vivid colouring and the final
result makes this canvas one of the best examples of original adhesion to the
formal language of international Rococo.
