The lands of life, those lands and the songs of dreams, and love are the subject matters that the art of KIM Sundoo(1958- ) persistently deals with, and his untiring experimentation with jangji, a kind of Korean paper, has been continuously widening the horizon of traditional-style Korean painting. In this work Kim succeeds in capturing “perpetuality” by seizing the instant time of “dawn” between night and day. The English alphabets lined up on the bottom indicate the initials of the days of the week. The dawn here is bathing in pale blue light. Kim seeks to convey the eternity of everything, which is undeniably momentary and ever-changing.
