Gyeongju-si, South Korea

These necklaces are made from linked gold beads, each consisting of two hemispheric halves. Each bead is bifurcated by a cross of gold thread, where four tear-shaped metal flakes are attached. There are two types of gold bead known to have come from Silla: this type, with the two hemispheric pieces, and another made by linking a number of small hooks. The most splendid necklaces yet discovered that originated from Silla are the necklaces of gold beads excavated from the tomb in Noseo-dong, Gyeongju(up).
