Golden altar from Lisbjerg Church, near Aarhus. The altar was executed around 1135. The golden altars were probably the product of Danish workshops, although after foreign inspiration. They were constructed with a core of oak, which was covered with thin, beaten fire-gilt copper sheet. In some cases, to contrast with the gold, a coat of varnish was applied.
