Goldsmith workshop

The goldsmith trade in Seville achieved significant richness during the 16th and 17th centuries. Most of the production was geared towards religious themes, and was supported by the economic strength of the Church during that period. The decorative Baroque motifs produced at the time are still the essential basis of its designs. The recovery of the splendour of Seville's Holy Week processions at the end of the 19th century have maintained to the present day the trade's priority dedication to religious themes.

The workshop being exhibited was donated by the famous Seville-born goldsmith Fernando Marmolejo Camargo. It draws together the tools and equipment used by his family over four generations. The installation shows several machines and tools which are no longer used in modern workshops because they have been replaced by more modern technologies.
