This image comes from a series of glass plate negatives created by the Department of Transport. The plates contain a historic record of Australian coastal lighthouses from about 1917. They are now held at the National Archives.
Goose Island Lighthouse was constructed in 1846 with the use of convict labour. Goose Island is a very small island in Bass Strait to the north of the Tasmanian coast.
