This painting depicts the site of the earliest successful agriculture by colonists in NSW. By 1790, Government Farm was doing well. Experienced farmer, Henry Edward Dodd was in charge of 100 convicts cultivating wheat and barley. As a result of their efforts, the colony survived starvation.
