A Mexican silver dollar (8 reales, minted in Potosi), with a portrait likely of Charles III of Spain. The front has been smoothed, except for the oval countermark. It has been re-engraved with the figure of a standing soldier holding a mug of ale and a rifle. Various implements are engraved in the background that possibly indicate a leatherworking or cobbler's profession: a hunting horn, a boot, a hammer, a shoe, a leather punch, a round knife.
