“Čarnok”, a fortified settlement from Late La Tène Period is located at the very heart of Bačka region, in the vicinity of Bačko Dobro Polje, municipality of Vrbas. It has been established by Scordisci, a Celtic tribe, in 2nd century BC, at the foot of a Telečka plateau in between rivers Jegrička to the South and Crna Bara to the North. Newer archaeological research has established an existence of several phases of the settlement as well as the existence of two kinds of settlement: open and enclosed. “Čarnok” was used for storage of various grains and cereals after the harvest: barley, oats, wheat and other. Large quantity of carbonated cereals as well as storing vessels, baskets and sylos demonstrate above else that Scordisci in Bačka region had organized agricultural production. “Čarnok” was also a very important trade and economic center during 2nd century BC all to the 1st century AD.
