Grand Army of the Republic medal

Grand Army of the Republic medal, Type V (1886-1956). Bronze spread eagle hanger with close cropped wing tips and crossed cannon and sabre on obverse. Reverse has bar clip and “Pat. May 4. 1886/June 22, 1886” with campfire scene.

United States flag ribbon.

Pendant is five pointed star with trefoil tips. Obverse has scene of soldiers and children, and branch of service insignia. Reverse has corps badges.

Serial number R4025 suggests a manufacture date of 1888, 1901, 1929, 1937, 1939, or 1948. (R indicates years when GAR Commander In Chief had a last name beginning with R.)
