In 1959 the governments of Great Britain and the Federal Republic of Germany concluded a treaty that established a cemetery to which the remains of most of the German nationals who died in Britain during the First and Second World Wars would be transferred. The cemetery was designed by Diez Brandi on behalf of the German War Graves Commission, with buildings designed by Stafford architect Harold Doffmann.
