Sangju, South Korea

It is a large seabird that used to be called a penguin. Its wings were small compared to its body, so it could not fly, and it laid one egg a year. Curious and unafraid of humans, these traits quickly drove the great auk to extinction. Currently, 78 taxidermy specimens, 24 skeletal specimens, and 75 eggs remain worldwide.

- Scientific name: Pinguinus impennis
- Extinction: 1844
- Classification system: Aves > Charadriiformes > Alcidae
