In the commemorative literature of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania of the 16th and 17th centuries, the connections of the nobles and the ruler with the capital Vilnius are often emphasized. The language of the works is characterized by solemnity and abundant rhetorical figures.

In his poem "Echo", Petri Strzelec, a student of Vilnius Academy, addresses the ruler Stephen Bathory. The work was published in the student poetry collection of Vilnius University GREETINGS TO THE BRIGHT RULER STEPHEN, BY THE GRACE OF GOD THE KING OF POLAND, THE GRAND DUKE OF LITHUANIA, [...] ON THE HAPPIEST OCCASION OF HIS HOLY ROYAL MAJESTY’S ARRIVAL IN VILNIUS IN THE YEAR OF OUR LORD 1579.
