Rafael Bordalo Pinheiro in Rio de Janeiro, where he lived between 1875 and 1879, in a group portrait with his companions of the ‘Laranjeiras Residence’. Arriving in Brazil, the artist lived temporarily in a mansion on Rua Nova das Laranjeiras, no. 9, with eleven companions. Among businessmen and people of other professions, were Thomaz d'Aquino, the president of this residence, Cunha Vasco, Matheus de Magalhães, the maestros Cyriaco de Cardoso and Arthur Napoleão, Joaquim da Silva, Dr. Raimundo, photographer Modesto Ribeiro, João Cavalheiro da Terra Ávila, Manuel Ribeiro and Adriano.
