Alfonso Hidalgo Cruz, a craftsman from Úbeda, is the sixth generation of a family of potters. After studying artistic ceramics and archaeology, he decided to break away from the traditional family pottery and set up his own business under the name of Góngora Cerámica. In this way, Alfonso began to explore the latest and most sophisticated techniques in contemporary ceramics: the production of high-temperature pieces, the use of stoneware and porcelain in his creations, and complex techniques such as zinc crystallisation or pit firing. Alfonso makes his own glazes to decorate with fire, the ultimate value for the finish of ceramics. Drawing with fire is one of the hallmarks of this ceramic workshop, which plays with temperatures, atmospheres and the combination of different elements to create unique effects. Despite being a young company, Góngora Cerámica exports artistic pieces and handmade tableware to the United Kingdom, Qatar, the United States and Canada.
