This hair ornament consists of 49 identical silver bars which are lodged in a piece of cork in a fan shape and held in position by a woven ribbon. At the bottom the fan ends in two larger ornamental pins, one on each side. Women used to affix this hair ornament to a bun which was pinned up on the back of the head with the help of two pins featuring large silver spheres at the ends. This hair fan is part of the traditional Lombard costume, particularly in the Alta Brianza region of north-western Italy.
