Hannes Hafstein, Iceland's first minister in the Danish government (wearing the double buttoned uniform) greeting the public during parliament inauguration ceremony 1904-1908. Hafstein contracted The Great Northern Telegraph Company to lay a sub-marine telegraph cable from The Shetlands via Faroe Islands to Iceland and thus connect the country to the international telegraph network in 1906.
