The second most populous African country, Ethiopia, is a predominantly agricultural country: this sector represents 85% of employment and 45% of the GDP. Under the Constitution, the land is state owned and leased to farmers. This allows to grant large concessions to foreign investors, some of which reach 100 000 hectares. This is called land grabbing by its critics, a word which means land accumulation for speculation.
