“This article is a grave warning: over 100,000 Brazilians – most of them young people from age 16 to 30 -- take drugs and are addicted. On the margins of society, these maladjusted men and women escape from reality, seeking a few moments of pleasure in exchange for incalculable suffering.” (article published in May of 1967, Realidade magazine, with text by Narciso Kalíli)
Andujar and the reporter accompanied an actual experience of drug use, in an example of journalism that could be considered bold even by today's standards. Supervised by a policeman from the Sector of Intoxicants of the São Paulo Department of Investigations, the article narrates the arrival of drugs in an apartment and a play-by-play description of drug use. The magazine published some black and white images. Unsatisfied with the result, Andujar added a psychedelic effect to the images by using a new graphic technique.
