The artist Xia Ziying indignantly created Head Sculpture of Wen Yiduo in the evening of July 5, 1946, the day Wen Yiduo is assassinated. It was then published in the magazine Middle School Students. The art critic Ping Ye spoke highly of the artwork. He denoted that the sculpture combines the techniques of Chinese and western sculptures and reveals feelings of clearness, solidness and simplicity, which “can not be achieved by other artwork at the moment”.
