Harrison's speech confronted accusations that he was against granting asylum to immigrants who wanted to escape "the oppression of foreign despots." William Henry Harrison would go on to become the ninth President of the United States in 1841. He died 32 days after taking office of complications from pneumonia, making him the first president to die while in office.
