Sangju, South Korea

It was once so common that it was often served on a Thanksgiving spread. However, due to overhaunting, they rapidly declined from the early 1840s to the late 1870s. In 1908, Americans formed a conservation group to protect them. Although it increased in number, they soon became extinct in 1916 due to a massive fire and pandemic. Although they are extinct now, it is significant that they were one of the first birds that people tried to save from extinction.

- Scientific name: Tympanuchus cupido cupido
- Extinction: 1932
- Classification system: Aves > Galliformes > Phasianidae
