In 1956, at the invitation of the Empire State Music Festival, Heitor Villa-Lobos wrote a ballet adaptation of the play created in 1920 by the American playwright Eugene O'Neill, with performance by the company of José Limón, professor at Juilliard, Escola Superior de Música.
