Heitor Villa-Lobos is seated at the piano, which appears in the foreground, Arminda Villa-Lobos standing with plate in hand, both laugh. On the back of the photograph, there is a handwritten dedication “To my dear mother so that she can enjoy our laugh. The photograph came out shaky, but we thought it might interest you, so here it goes. Kisses and hugs from the homesick children. Villa-Lobos. New York, 4/1/1954 ”. The couple is in their room at the Hotel Alrae, where they used to stay when they were in New York City. As you can read in the dedication, the photo was sent to Arminda Villa-Lobos's mother, Hermenegilda D'Almeida.
