Gdansk Shipyard is one of Poland’s biggest shipyards, located in the city of Gdansk, on the left bank of the Martwa Wisła River, and on the Ostrów Island.
It was founded after 1945. In December 1970, it was a scene of worker protests suppressed by the Communists, during which three shipyard workers were killed. Gdansk Shipyard is where the Solidarity movement was born and where the August Agreements were signed in 1980.
