Two cabinet-size bronzes of political orators Henry Clay and Daniel Webster were sculpted by Thomas Ball. This bronze of Henry Clay was cast in 1858 to be a companion to one of Webster from 1853. Ball was an American artist and also a musician. Clay served as secretary of state under President John Quincy Adams and represented Kentucky in both the Senate and the House of Representatives, where he also served as Speaker three times.
