Oval-shaped bud made with excellent quality amethyst. It depicts, vertically and in profile, the figure of Hercules “Musagetes” or “Musarum” with the lyre in his right hand. The skin of the Lion of Nemea is draped over his head and shoulders. Iconographically it follows the model of the denarius minted by Q. Pomponi Musa in 66 BC. Behind the figure is the vertical inscription "ΣΚΥΛΑΚΟΣ" (the work of Scilax), a known imperial gold and silversmith and creator of such pieces as the amethyst with the portrait of the emperor Claudius.
