Heretic (1929)

Photograph of Martha Graham's Dance Group in Heretic. On April 14, 1929, Martha Graham and Dance Group gave the first performance of Heretic at the Booth Theatre in New York City.

Dance critic John Martin called the work "strikingly original and glowing with vitality." The review continued, "Audiences who came to be amused and entertained will go away disappointed, for Miss Graham's programs are alive with passion and protest. She does the unforgivable thing for a dancer to do – she makes you think."
