Hide and Seek

(Nighttime) The mixed media sculptures are placed in the courtyard of Suanluang Square. Viewers can take part in watching the animation through the interaction between the zoetrope and the sculpture.
Suanluang Square is the improvement of the Xiang Kong area at Chula Soi 5 and Chula Soi 12, an area of 10 rai, from old disordered shops to a modern community. Suanluang Square is intended to be a prime location under the concept of being a center for popular shops and restaurants and a model commercial district and at the same time, reviving the old community. The territory of Chulalongkorn University covers both education and business areas. The passers-by in these areas are mostly teenagers and people of working age, all with access to various social networks, such as Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. Therefore, to catch their interest, the artworks need to be tangible and playable.
The Samyan-Suanluang community consists of Thai and Chinese-Thai people living together and in a unique mixed culture expressed in businesses, food, utensils, and architecture. At present, urban ways of life are changing dramatically. Large buildings and new residences have sprung up in the Samyan-Suanluang area, making a blended landscape of old and new. The mixed cultural identity of the Samyan-Suanluang community, as adopted by people of different origins and different generations, became the theme of this artwork.
Engaging materials such as animation are a tool to communicate and connect with people of different ages and cultures. Using animation and mixed media sculptures, the artist creates art derived from the children’s play culture, drawing on house walls and home appliances and doodling on notebooks and with cartoon characters. The household appliances and children's play are combined, linking two cultures and two generations and shown through zoetrope animation and mixed-media readymade sculpture.
