Situated on the banks of the Vltava River, the town was built around a thirteenth-century castle with Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque elements. Český Krumlov is an outstanding example of a small central European medieval town whose architectural heritage has remained intact thanks to its peaceful evolution over more than five centuries.

It has stood out among small cities in Europe since the Middle Ages, thanks to its many historically valuable buildings. It displays a well-developed urban infrastructure of a city located in the basin of the beautiful Vltava River.
