The manuscript was written in 1482 by Hans Seybolt, the former monastery copyist of the Cistercian abbey of Seligental in Landshut, for Thomas Jud von Bruckberg, known as a collector of books. The artist's signature and the indication of the year provide rare information about the illuminator, Ludwig Zwiger. He was trained in the workshop of the Landshut court painter Sigmund Gleismüller (active 1474–1515).
Fol. 177r: The dedication portrait presumably shows Veronica, the daughter of Thomas Jud von Bruckberg kneeling before Jesus presented as a man of sorrows, asking for mercy: "O got biß gnedig mir arme sünderin" (Oh Lord, have mercy upon me poor sinner). Two dogs are lying on her train. On the top left, the coat of arms of the Jud von Bruckberg, next to it the inscription with the name of the illuminator: "Von Schwiecz Ludwig Zwiger maller" (and the date "15001" (=1501). An additional monogram of the illuminator "LZ" is on the bottom left.
