This street corner building located at E38th Street & Central Avenue, on a lot adjacent to the Playhouse Settlement was the original theatre space. In 1923, the Jelliffes began utilizing the corner building commonly known as Karamu Theatre. The building provided space for theatre performances but also for visual art, dance and music classes, and daycare. The building was destroyed by the fire in 1939.
