When it was found in 1879 this hoard comprised 279 almost identical flanged axes made of fahlore. The objects do not bear any tool marks and may be referred to as bars. Hoards of this kind and size are not rare for the early Bronze Age and indicate that large quantities of raw material were being traded throughout Europe even in the early 2nd millennium B.C.E.
