The compositor's last will was to bring his heart back to Warsaw - which fortunately happened thanks to his sister Ludwika Jędrzejewiczowa. She transffered the heart to Holy Cross Church located on Krakowskie Przedmieście Street, which was the family parish of Chopin's household. The church itself was first mentioned in chronicles dating 1510 and was a burial place of prince Adam Kazimierz Czartoryski. Its walls have seen such figures as Stanisław Kostka Potocki, Stanisław Moniuszko, Karol Szymanowski and Paweł Jasienica. The heart waited for 30 years in the church's cellar to be placed in a dedicated niche in one of the pillars of the Holy Cross Church. Since then, it had left the Church only twice. For the first time in 1944 when it was moved to Milanówek, for safety reasons, to be looked after by archbishop Szlagowski. For the second time in 2014 to be closely examined by scientists. Their research proved that Chopin's heart is actually in a perfect condition. It is white and exceptionally big for a man of a posture that Chopin was. Changes observed during the examination pointed towards the conclusion that compositor's death was caused by tuberculosis. Next examination of the organ is planned to be held in 50 years.
