Hopper Mausoleum at St Andrew's

1752

Churches Conservation Trust
London, United Kingdom

This domed mausoleum surrounded by gravestones is built with finely cut stones that fit neatly together, a technique known as ashlar masonry. This is made it possible to create the seamless curves of this dome. This mausoleum may have been built by Humfrey Hopper in memory of his wife Jane Hodgeson (d.1752), but this is disputed.
