Horseshoe Found by FDR

Metal horseshoe. Closed end of horseshoe has protruding vertical triangular metal piece attached. Six rectangular holes are found along the horseshoe at regular intervals and are presumably for nails. There are also four larger holes, the interiors of which are reverse threaded of unknown purpose. The horseshoe has a silvery color, aged to brown in areas. This horseshoe was found by FDR on the battlefield of Medjez-el-Bab, west of Tunis, in November 1943. While stopping at the roadside for a picnic lunch with General Eisenhower, the President looked down and directly under his feet was the horseshoe. FDR Library Museum Collection, MO 1944.104.6.
