Milano, Italy

We know that in the courtyard of Pompeo Leoni’s famous Casa degli Omenoni stood a life-size copy of the equestrian statue of Marcus Aurelius on the Capitol in Rome, and this cast of the horse’s head from the famous monument also comes from the Pompeo Leoni Collection. Documents show that it has been in the Ambrosiana, certainly for academic and study purposes, at least since 1661.
