In 1926, Milly Mann and her husband Georg worked on one of the numerous coffee plantations in Guatemala. They received this huipil – an upper garment for women – as a gift from their cook, Serapia, at that time. It was presumably the wedding dress of Serapia's mother. According to this information the huipil dates possibly from the 1840s making it one of the oldest still preserved garments of this kind.
