"I found myself selecting works that complemented one another as colors do, pairing works that define a category of practice while sharing no attributes beyond those that define the category. The paintings of Takashi Murakami and the wall treatments of Jim Isermann and Gajin Fujita are complementary in this sense. Another constellation of works by Jim Isermann, Darryl Montana, Alexis Smith, and Takashi Murakami test the broad interface of fine art, décor, and design." - Text by Curator Dave Hickey for the exhibition catalog
