The elements of cinema are used by Barba as a language. In I Made a Circuit, Then a Second Circuit (2010), the projector takes a leading role in her installations, setting two languages of sculpture and cinema into dialogue. The superposition of the cut out sequence and its projection results in legibility and illegibility alike and raises the question of the very perception of a text and the interaction and collapsing of writings into an infinity.
Language in the literal sense is also employed in Barba’s work. She takes words, spoken or read, handwritten or typeset on a screen as raw materials. These fragments of writing work as single and evocative images in themselves or as vehicles to create images.
