Ibn al-Haytham, Latinised Alhasen or Alhazen, appears on the cover image of Selenographia, 1647.

The Polish astronomer Johannes Hevelius chose to honour both Galileo and Ibn al-Haytham, crediting the latter as a pioneer of the rational scientific method in his masterwork Selenographia. Published in 1647, the book was the first to chart the Moon's surface as seen through a telescope.
