Since 2013, I have been installing ice objects, often radiators, anonymously across Europe in public spaces in Paris, Berlin, Moscow, Leipzig, Oslo. This "Vanishing Street Art in 4D" whose aesthetics arises from the contrast between the hot and the cold, inspires associations with energy waste, global warming and social sculpture. In 2017, I started freezing ice stickers to walls when temperatures were below 0°C. The first motif was the QR code "cold in here!" which contained the impressions of two feet: someone had walked through the cold digital world, melting it.
In January 2018, I flew to Moscow with silicone moulds of sockets, light switches and reliefs of Lenin’s face. I produced over 200 ice stickers and froze them to the walls of the Bolshoi Theater and the Kremlin walls among others. This urban art campaign referred to a Lenin quote: "Communism is Soviet power plus the electrification of the whole country", flagging up the transience of social visions 100 years after the October Revolution.
The ice stickers are often inconspicuous, sometimes provocative and often humorous. They confuse the viewer and their playful and socio-critical dimensions are reminiscent of Dadaism. When the thaw sets in, the ice stickers start melting, usually dissolving without a trace.
