Wathne's House was was built in 1894 as the private home of Seydisfjordur "town father", the Norwegian Otto Wathne. He died in 1898 and his inheritors sold it to The Great Northern Telegraph Company for use as the first Icelandic telegraph station and international hub station for all international telegraph traffic to and from Iceland.
