Bragança, Portugal

As with cars, all locomotives, coaches, railcars and wagons received a unique number and information regarding the manufacturer.
Although many of these vehicles have disappeared, it was possible to preserve the record of their existence through their identification plates. There are several types of numbering. This includes Manufacturers' Plates - a type of guarantee seal with the manufacturer name, place and date of manufacture; Locomotive Identification Plates - indicating the sequential number and series of the different locomotives, which was usually preceded by the Company' initials; the Tender Identification Plates (these being a type of wagon where the water and fuel reserves necessary operation of the locomotive were transported); or the Coach, Automotive and Trailer Identification Plates - consisting of a sequence of letters (indicative of the type of vehicle) and a sequential number.
