The Sette Libri d'architettura by the architect Sebastiano Serlio (1475 – 1554) made him one of the most influential architecture theorists in architectural history. He originally learned painting in Rome, and from 1514 on worked for the architect Baldassare Peruzzi. After the Sack of Rome by Charles V in 1527, he emigrated to Venice and, in 1541, finally emigrated to France to enter the service of the king.
The seven books on architecture also dealt with marginal topics such as the design of chimneys, doors or gardens. Not least thanks to Andrea Palladio, they have prevailed as the generally valid concept for the communication of architecture to this day.
