This D-35 Dreadnaught model Martin guitar was owned and played by Elvis Presley in 29 of his live performances between 1976-1977. At a concert on 14 February 1977 in St. Petersburg, Florida, a string and the blue corduroy strap on the guitar broke. Upset, Elvis tossed the guitar into the air and it fell onto the stage, damaging the instrument’s lower edge. He subsequently offered the guitar as a gift to a young woman in the audience, Kathy Waldorp, who owned it for many years.
