This dress is striped silk and cotton Chanderi fabric, hand embroidered in a honeycomb pattern with tiny knots. It is all zardoshi work using multi-strand cotton embroidery thread. Zardoshi is an opulent form of Indian embroidery encompassing a variety of needlework and traditional techniques, mostly passed from father to son with secrecy. Chanderi is hand-loomed fabric using cotton, silk or both. Originating in Chanderi, India, it has a characteristic sheerness, gloss and soft texture.
