In Basel Erasmus came into contact with book printer Froben, who printed several of his works.

The discussion with Luther only confirmed to Erasmus that multiple interpretations of the Bible were possible. Erasmus and Luther have thus become exemplary for a Catholic and a Protestant view on understanding God's Word. Yet the value of Erasmus's contribution to the theological discussions at the beginning of the Reformation is not just a matter of Catholic or Protestant. Several new movements would also arise within Catholicism.

Erasmus died in his Swiss hometown, in Basel, where he is revered as a great man in every way. His grave monument is located in the Dom Church of the Rhine City.
